"...I hate surprises." It's just a flat statement. It's a very spy thing to say, maybe, but she feels she should say it anyway just in case Stevie was going to go all out. Simple really is best with her, though she might seem like a mysterious woman with extravagant taste. It's all a smokescreen.
"We'll go somewhere small." Stevie promises. She's all for simple even if it's tempting to set up the perfect scenario. She really has been hanging around Tony for too long. "I promise I won't make it into a huge thing. I'm not Tony." She agrees with his sentiments in this situation though.
"...That's good to hear. Sometimes I worry about you two spending so much time together." Her lips twitch. She would never be jealous of Tony, but it's a good tease. And Stevie really does pick up his mannerisms sometimes they spend so much time together. "Maybe we should ease into this. Like. A half-date."
Stevie smiles in amusement. A lot of people have assumptions about her and Tony. She doesn't get too worked up about it when it's played for laughs. "A half-date?" She has no idea what that even means. "Alright, if that's what you want."
She doesn't know what she wants. Her face falters a moment before she's able to smooth it back out again. "...You pick." She said she didn't like surprises, but she is so not capable of picking a date spot. You're on your own Stevie.
"Okay." She gives a brief look. "I've got a few ideas I know you'll love. It'll have to be back in New York though." Yeah she's quitting DC forever after this. Good luck luring her back... At least until she remembers Sam's pancakes are here.
"You know I'll love them, huh?" Something warm spreads through her chest at that, and she draws her knees up against the door. "New York is... I can do New York." She'll be happy to get back there, honestly.
She cants her head to the side. "It's more of a gut feeling." Isn't that kind of the same thing? Stevie sighs softly. "I wish we were there already. It'd be nice, right? Skip ahead to the happy ending where you take the girl out on a date." She really has watched too many movies.
Oh my god Stevie you are so precious. Natasha's breath catches in her chest. "It would be." But that isn't how life works -- especially for her. She knows there's a very real possibility this date will never happen, but it felt good to pretend even for one moment they were normal people. Real people. She curls in a little more on herself and looks out the window. "I'm sure it'll be perfect."
Stevie catches that out of the corner of her eye. They're getting close. She needs to stay focused, but leaving Natasha like this isn't an option. "It'll be okay. You're Black Widow. I'm Captain America. We can handle whatever comes next." So don't worry goes unsaid. She'd like Natasha to draw that conclusion even if it's optimistic on Stevie's part. Nick is dead. They have plenty to worry about.
