Frank has been slowly learning to forge connections again, and for whatever reason they seem to go easier when the other party is as damaged as he is. Maybe they don't expect as much from one another, or maybe they're just not capable of having real people for friends. Whatever the reason, he finds himself meeting Elektra's eyes across the parking lot and beelining over to greet her (but he stoops to greet her dog first, naturally.) Through essentially kidnapping the scruffy mutt whenever he pleased, he had met another lost soul in the park and the two had become fast friends once they learned of one another's service record.
Which is how this strange group ended up deciding to meet at Denny's of all places, mostly just because it was easy to get to and iconic enough that they would all find their way easily enough. Frank had invited Jessica, but he doesn't know if she'll come. Whatever's going on between them is volatile and in its infancy, but Frank finds it worthwhile to try and do normal things with her. Or as normal as meeting a bunch of weirdos at a pancake chain could be. Something something coping mechanisms.
He adjusts the dog's "service dog in training" vest and shakes his head before rising up off the ground to walk Elektra in, but not before stealing another pat for him. He really is a sweet dog, and Frank is happy to have played his part in saving him. Since no one else is here yet, he strolls by the empty hostess stand and goes to find them a seat to his usual specifications: a booth away from the most of the other customers facing the door. Frank slides in and lifts his eyebrows as she slides into the opposite side. "Here goes nothing, right?"
Elektra was never truly prepared for life after the war ended. Even if she hadn't been taken and exploited by her enemy, she'd still have plenty of baggage from a literal lifetime of fighting and killing. It's been a struggle to put herself back together, it will likely remain one for a long time, but she must because no one else can do it for her. Letting someone in had been part of it even if had been unconscious on her part. Neither are really what can be defined as 'good' friends, but what does it better? They're fragments of actual people. At least when they're together they find themselves to be a little more whole.
If she had been entirely alone, Elektra doubts she would have come up with a practical solution to life after the war and imprisonment. She would have probably fucked empty-minded, but pretty men all over Europe and slit the throat of anyone who deserved her wrath. She'd go back to either wanting to destroy herself or anyone else nearby because it was the only way her twisted up brain could handle what had happened to her.
Instead she's at Denny's with a german shepherd at her side watching another tortured killer find excuses to pet him. The empty-minded men might have been nice, but this is somehow makes her feel more alive. While she never looks forward to meeting Frank's people to speak as she's basically an unlikeable bitch by her own admission, she gives it a shot all the same. The Liberman's hadn't despised her. Maybe these people would either. (She's not counting on it considering she was literally told to kill one of them once upon a time.)
"Famous last words." She teases as she moves her feet to accommodate the dog settling behind them. She lets out a soft chuckle as she points out. "You really are popular these days."
[It starts off dumb so a standard Kamala Khan adventure. Zoe is loudly complaining about the new barista at Starbucks. She's trying so hard to ignore her stupid, loud mouth. As the days go by her complaints start getting weirdly specific. Like she knows who resembles those remarks. Sure enough after school she rolls up with Nakia to find exactly who she thinks will be there along with Zoe who is very clearly trying to pick a fight with that barista she hates. Again. Kamala is half-tempted to let her keep at it. She's going to get banned from Starbucks at this rate for harassing employees, but now that she can see her concern trolling for what it is she gets understandably angry about it. She snaps at her to shut up before Nakia does her usual routine of passive-aggressively pointing out she's being a bitch again.
Why does she keep coming here if she knows the new barista sucks? Like all bullies, she takes off at the slightest bit of pushback. Nakia goes off to grab them a table to do their homework at with a warning for Kamala not to hulk smash anyone. Kamala goes to grab coffee since why not? She's here.]
Nice job making the mean girl hate your guts. You're like her nemesis now.
